The Artist
Ray Smith is passionate about wood and even more passionate about the environment. At the heart of his work, lies a strong
desire to know everything about the products and suppliers of the raw materials for his business. It is paramount that the
wood comes from a sustainable, reclaimed or rescued source.
In fact Ray started out in the trade by turning some old French oak floorboards into a chunky rustic picture frame for
his wife's wedding anniversary. The floorboards were found deteriorated and abandoned in his vegetable patch, whilst living
in France.
His wife was delighted with the finished frame and this kick-started a journey in reusing, reclaimed and unwanted timber
and turning it into something practical and beautiful for the home.
Thanks to the necessity to take down a dangerous storm damaged barn, a surplus amount of seasoned oak became available.
This soon turned into benches, tables, a tree house and furniture for the house and garden. Even an 8-foot barn door soon
became a large garden dinner table.
The family returned to the UK and Ray continued with his dream, creating unique pieces of art from locally sourced wood,
predominantly oak.
These pieces take the form of clocks, knife blocks and storage solutions to furniture for the whole home and garden.
He has even been commissioned to sculpt bespoke trophies for national competitions and charity events!
Ray is married to sustainable living writer and broadcaster Tracey Smith and they live and work together on the Dorset/Somerset
borders.

The Ethics
The Eco Wood Man's goal is to create beautiful products that are designed with the planet in mind.
We also endeavour to promote and encourage positive, ethical change with the suppliers we use too.
Every element of our business employs sustainable thinking, right down to the packaging, which is recycled and reused
to it's limits!
You won't find superfluous and wasteful options used to pack and deliver the product to your door.
Thank you for looking at our site and please get in touch if you have any further questions.
